"The AIADMK and DMK joining together is not a political mistake. We have no problem joining with the DMK. We are ready to work together with the DMK in election-related activities," said CPI state secretary Veerapandian in an interview, and his remarks have become a topic of debate.
In this situation, we contacted M. Veerapandian and put some questions to him. Here are the answers he gave!!!

You have said that the merger of DMK and AIADMK is not a political mistake. What is your political view behind this?
Both DMK and AIADMK are democratic forces. Without the BJP, what political mistake could there be in DMK and AIADMK coming closer and engaging in dialogue? But initially, it was the BJP that made the wrong move in this matter. Otherwise, there is no political mistake in two democratic forces coming closer.
You have said that you are ready to work together with the DMK in election activities. Is this a temporary decision for election time, or is it an ideological approach?
Parties like the DMK, TVK, and AIADMK are not our ideological enemies. Politically and ideologically, our only enemy is the RSS-BJP. Everything else is considered democratic forces. For the welfare of Tamil Nadu, and for the unity and integrity of the country, we can work and struggle together with all democratic forces, including the DMK. That is our ideological stance.
You have said that there is no problem in joining with the DMK. When another election comes, is there a possibility of forming an alliance with them?
An election alliance is something the party decides. But at the policy level, the DMK and the communist movement are not enemies. We respect the views of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna, and Dr. Kalaignar. We also respect the DMK’s democratic contribution. Therefore, joining hands with such democratic forces to defeat communal forces is a matter of principle. When the election situation arises, the party will decide on alliances.

It has been a few months since TVK came to power in Tamil Nadu. How does the Communist Party of India assess Chief Minister Vijay’s performance?
When we first extended our support, we put forward certain political conditions. They were that it must remain firmly committed to secularism, protect the interests of Tamil Nadu, and show concern for the welfare of oppressed people, workers, and the poor. We have been continuously insisting that the government must fulfill the demands of working people, farmers, sanitation workers, government doctors, and employees.
At the same time, we do not agree with the Tamil Nadu government traveling on the path of the Union government, such as privatization and liberalization; we have been opposing and condemning it through statements. We cannot accept, against the wishes of the people, the setting up of a government office in the fishermen’s residential area in Pattinapakkam, or the handing over of airports to private parties.
Is Chief Minister Vijay showing hesitation in the SIR (SIR) issue?
Yes, certainly. The voting rights of 130 million people have been taken away. The whole nation is fighting for the Chief Election Commissioner to resign. It is not right for the Chief Minister to remain silent on this. We request that he strongly raise his voice demanding the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
How strongly do you think the Tamil Nadu government should speak out for the rights of the state and against the policies of the central government?
Maintaining an administrative relationship with the Union government is one thing; accepting its policies is another. We should not accept the Union government’s policies, nor should we consent to them. We must fight for Tamil Nadu’s rights without hesitation, under the leadership of the Chief Minister.

What is the Left’s view on the future and ideology of the TVK, which has risen by defeating the two Dravidian parties?
Only time will tell. They say that secularism is their ideology. Rather than the ministers saying this, the Chief Minister himself should say it firmly. Since people have voted with great expectations, both TVK and the Chief Minister should travel on a secular path," he said in response to questions.
