Chennai: If the government does not abandon the plan to set up a new secretariat in Pattinapakkam, Naam Tamilar Katchi will mobilize the fishing community and intensify its protest, said the party’s chief coordinator Seeman, issuing a warning.
In this regard, he said in a statement: “The Tamil Nadu government’s issuance of a government order stating that a new Secretariat will be built in Pattinappakkam is shocking. The TVK government, which has been repeatedly saying that it has been unable to fulfill the promises it made because Tamil Nadu has a debt of Rs. 10 lakh crore, why is there a need to urgently build a new Secretariat by spending Rs. 1,200 crore amid a severe financial crisis?”
If there is severe congestion and traffic jam in George Town, then in Pattinapakkam, where there is even greater congestion and traffic jam with Santhome Church, more than ten schools, colleges, numerous business establishments, industrial centers, and the trading places of the fishing community, is the establishment of a new headquarters for the Chief Minister for the people’s need? Or for the Chief Minister’s personal need?
For the personal benefit of the Chief Minister, the Tamil Nadu government must immediately abandon the decision to set up a new Secretariat in Pattinapakkam, wasting the taxpayers’ money of the people of the state, in an area already facing severe congestion, traffic jams, and tsunami risk. Otherwise, we, the Naam Tamilar Katchi, will mobilize the 9 village fishing communities of Pattinapakkam that will be affected and lead a massive struggle. We said we would not allow projects like the Salem eight-lane highway, Parandur airport, or the pen statue in the sea to be established. They were not established. Likewise, we will never allow the Secretariat to be set up in Pattinapakkam. He said this in it.
