At that time, he was arrested by the Tamil Nadu government on both occasions. In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, he contested from the Dharapuram constituency but lost the chance of victory to the DMK candidate.

In that letter, he said: I request that I be relieved of my positions as Union Minister of State and Rajya Sabha member so that I can devote myself full-time to the work of strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu.
I want to go to every village and street in Tamil Nadu, meet the people, and, together with party workers, expand the BJP’s growth across all parts of the state. I also want to prepare the party for the 2029 Lok Sabha election and devote all my time and energy to winning more seats from Tamil Nadu under your leadership. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve in your government over the past five years. This is what it says.
