Chennai: “Since the northeast monsoon has begun, precautionary measures should be taken to ensure uninterrupted medical services in government hospitals,” said Health Minister Arunraj.
In this regard, Health Minister Arunraj and Secretary Thares Ahmed have stated in a letter to all district collectors, hospital administrators, joint directors of medical and rural health services, district health officers, and health department officials:
The northeast monsoon has begun in Tamil Nadu. During the rainy season, efforts should be aimed at three objectives: preventing the spread of disease, preventing loss of life, and ensuring uninterrupted medical services. The following precautionary measures should be taken in all districts.
In particular, uninterrupted power supply should be ensured in intensive care units, cardiac care units, neonatal intensive care units, and operating theaters.
Steps should be taken to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply in government and private hospitals and to maintain an emergency reserve sufficient for at least 7 days. Hospitals should stock essential medicines, intravenous fluids, disinfectants, ORS solutions for diarrhea, anti-venom medicines for snakebites, chlorine tablets, and medical consumables in quantities sufficient for at least 7 days.
Medical camps should be conducted in coordination with the district administration and local bodies in areas affected by floods and cyclones. It should be ensured that pregnant women, the elderly, children, and those receiving long-term treatment are in safe places.
Pregnant women nearing delivery should avoid staying in flood-prone areas and should seek the necessary medical advice. Medical personnel should remain in a state of readiness by taking the above precautionary measures. It is stated accordingly.
