Mumbai: Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, who staged a protest in Mumbai against the Chief Election Commissioner, demanded the cancellation of the SIR and EVM system.
Opposition parties have been alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. In this matter, protests and rallies are being held across the country on behalf of India alliance parties, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
As part of this, a massive rally was held yesterday in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, under the leadership of Shiv Sena (Uddhav) leader Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray.
The rally began in the Metro Cinema area and went up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in South Mumbai. Leaders from the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) also took part in the rally. Speaking at the rally, Raj Thackeray said, “The SIR process conducted in Maharashtra should be completely abandoned.
“Voting in the country through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) should be stopped, and we should return to the ballot paper system. The Election Commission should not decide who should be in power. The people should decide,” he said.
Speaking about Uddhav Thackeray, he said, “Gyanesh Kumar has taken away the people’s very right to vote. This will affect the election process. The SIR exercise should be completely cancelled. If the purpose of the SIR exercise was to remove Bangladeshi infiltrators from the voter list, how many have you identified?” he asked.
