Puducherry: “We have confidence that when the time comes to oppose the BJP, the TVK will oppose it,” said Vishnu Prasad, the Congress party’s Puducherry in-charge observer.
Speaking to reporters at the Puducherry Congress office today, he said: We have decided that at least 1,000 Congress members will take part in the rally to be held in Delhi on Nov. 1, demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
How does the same party keep coming to power again and again in India? In 2014, Modi came to power by criticizing us. But none of the corruption he spoke of has been proven. In Modi’s rule, only Adani and Ambani are benefiting.
People who voted are now thinking. We did not vote, so how is Modi coming to power again and again? The law says that to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner, 2 out of the 3 people—the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India—must give their approval.
But in 2023, an amendment to the law was brought in, and through it the Prime Minister and Amit Shah together appointed Gyanesh Kumar as Election Commissioner. This Election Commission has removed, in many states, Dalits, minorities, and new voters who do not vote for the BJP.
So far, 13.5 crore voters have been removed from 30 states and Union Territories. Meanwhile, in an interview given publicly last September, two Election Commissioners said that we have raised 14 objections in 10 months regarding the functioning of the Election Commission.
We are not involved in the work taking place in the Election Commission office. We are not consulted. No signatures are taken from us on any orders. They have said there is no transparency.
Gyanesh Kumar, who carried out an act that deprives people of their democratic rights, must resign. The 130 crore voters must be re-enrolled. The SIR must be corrected. The electronic voting machine system must be changed and the old ballot paper system must be brought back.
There is no room for justice under the Modi government. Rahul Gandhi has called for a protest, saying that only if the people are mobilized through struggle and a massive revolution erupts can change be brought to the country.
The removal of voters has taken place in all constituencies. Through this, our chances of winning in more constituencies have been snatched away.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is someone who stands firm in his principles. He has the strength to withstand all the pressure put on him in the election. It is precisely because the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has the courage to oppose the BJP and Modi that the Congress is in the coalition government by supporting the TVK.
Everyone will come together and work to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister in 2029. Why should TVK be afraid of the BJP? There is no need to be afraid. TVK also walked out of the SIR meeting. They will oppose the BJP when the time comes to oppose them. We have confidence that when the time comes, they will make our dream come true, he said.
During the interview, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president Vaithealingam MP, MLA Karthikeyan, former ministers Kandasamy and Shahjahan, and party functionaries were present.
