At a government community baby shower event held in Trichy, TVK MLA Navalpattu Viji was upset because MP Christopher Thilak lit the ceremonial lamp before him.
Minister Ramesh calmed him down and eased the situation. This video is now going viral on the internet. We checked with party sources to find out why TVK MLA Navalpattu Viji got so angry in the gathering.
Some local TVK members who spoke to us about this said, “Navalpattu Viji is not someone who came from the fan club or the people’s movement. He is a DMK man. There, he was caught in the K.N. Nehru vs. Anbil Mahesh politics and remained without much importance. Since he is a supporter of K.N. Nehru, Anbil Mahesh’s gang will not show him any respect within the constituency.
As the election approached, our leadership looked for a strong candidate for Anbil Mahesh’s Thiruverumbur constituency. Since it is the sitting minister’s constituency, no one was eager to contest there. Even those who expressed interest in standing were not strong candidates.
It was only after hearing about this matter that Navalpattu Viji entered the scene. He got hold of the local district secretary and sent word to our leadership. Since someone from within the DMK was coming forward to challenge Mahesh, our leadership also made him the candidate.
As in the rest of Tamil Nadu, in the Thiruverumbur constituency too, votes were cast for our leader’s face, and Viji won. But having defeated a minister himself, he expected the leadership to notice him and give him a ministerial post.

After making Ramesh, who won in Tiruchi Srirangam, a minister and making Ravishankar, who won in Thuraiyur, the deputy speaker, they ignored him. As soon as he became an MLA, he tried to sideline the people’s movement office-bearers already in the party and bring his own people into the party.
Because of that, the local functionaries and Viji clashed. At an MLA meeting held in Panaiyur itself, he had even snapped at Aadhav Arjuna, saying in a somewhat heated tone, 'We MLAs and party functionaries, no one respects us. Please reprimand them a bit.'
'It was a big deal that you, who came from another party, were given a seat and made an MLA. Behave yourself,' Aadhav also warned Viji.
When MLAs were made district secretaries, Viji was appointed as the Thiruverumbur district secretary. In DMK, district secretaries act like petty kings. Within the district, what they say goes. Party leaders and ministers do not come into the district without consulting the district secretary. But here, the district secretary post does not have that much power.
It is only a post for administrative convenience. The district ministers and the leadership will make all the decisions. Even for defeating the sitting minister, he was not given a ministerial post. He feels frustrated that they have given him the powerless district secretary post and simply made him sit there.

At this event too, when this senior MLA was standing there, Minister Ramesh Musiri gave the candle to Vignesh. He lit it and then, instead of handing the candle to Vijay, gave it to the Congress MP. This further irritated Vijay, who was already upset.
That is why he erupted right there on the stage. However, if there had been someone from the People’s Movement in Vijay’s place, they would have remained calm. He is the one who reacts so hastily and turns things negative. Our leadership will not like this,'' they said.
