Chennai: “The horse-trading allegation raised by TVK is an attempt to divert the people’s attention by hiding the failures of a chaotic administration. Isn’t it shameful to shed crocodile tears by claiming that horse-trading is taking place against the government, with the intent of diverting attention from the law-and-order collapse and administrative failures, and deceiving the people?” asked AMMK general secretary TTV. Dhinakaran.
In a statement he issued on this, he said, ‘TVK, which introduced horse-trading for the first time in Tamil Nadu politics and is running a minority government, speaking about horse-trading now is equivalent to the devil reciting the scriptures.
This horse-trading drama is being staged only to divert attention from the fact that due to their incompetent administration, all sections of people—ordinary citizens, farmers, government employees, sanitation workers, doctors, nurses, persons with disabilities, and young people waiting in hope of employment—have been pushed into a helpless state, having lost their livelihoods.
TVK, which does not have the majority strength needed to form a government, has, like the saying “the elephant comes later; the sound of the bell comes first,” sent sofas to the headquarters of every party seeking support, saying the TVK leader will come later and the sofa will come first. At the same time, it is the height of contradiction for it to lament now about horse-trading after pressuring opposition-party MLAs who contested against TVK and won with the people’s support to resign, thereby retaining power.
Rising prices of essential commodities including rice, pulses, and sugar; irregularities in electricity charges; purchase of electricity at exorbitant rates; moves to privatize all sectors of the government; interference by ruling party members in government administration; complaints that from MLAs to ministers, bribes are being demanded to allot government work; economic decline; and industrial investments moving toward neighboring states — due to the administrative mismanagement of the TVK government, all of Tamil Nadu is facing an unprecedented setback.
Moreover, with the steadily increasing series of murders, sexual crimes against women, incidents of children going missing, prison inmates escaping, and ruling party members hoarding narcotics, isn’t it shameful to shed crocodile tears and mislead the people by claiming that horse-trading is taking place against the government, in order to divert attention from the law and order situation and administrative failures that are openly exposed?
Unable to face the upcoming by-elections honestly, going now only to the constituencies where by-elections are to be held, and, in the name of welfare assistance, “making sweets for your home with ghee from someone else’s house,” and threatening colleges in those areas to bring students and conduct roadshows is politics at its most despicable.
Therefore, he has stated that unless it abandons such petty attempts to hide its incompetent administration and divert the people, focuses on key issues such as rising prices and the deterioration of law and order, and improves the livelihood of the poor and ordinary people while ensuring their safety, the people themselves will rise up and democratically put an end to this minority TVK government.
