Naam Tamilar women's wing leader Karthika has been arrested in connection with the three cases registered regarding the Dharapuram assembly by-election.
Cases had been filed against Karthika, the Naam Tamilar candidate for Dharapuram, for incidents including laying siege to a police station during election campaigning and carrying out campaigning along the route taken by the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Dharapuram police, who went to Karthika's home in Coimbatore, have arrested her and her husband. Naam Tamilar Party coordinator Seeman has condemned Karthika's arrest.

In the statement he has released regarding this, "Arresting sister Karthika and other Naam Tamilar relatives by fabricating false cases with the intent of political revenge is the lowly politics of the TVK government! Power is not permanent, and no rule is everlasting! The day this government and its power will fall is not far away!
I strongly condemn the action of the TVK government, which has arrested sister Karthika, who contested in the Dharapuram by-election, and 7 Naam Tamilar relatives, including her husband Murugasanthakumar, in a false case with the intent of political revenge. Arresting and imprisoning people by initiating election-time cases is the height of fascism.
Isn’t it lowly politics to target Thangai Karthika now and rush to arrest and take revenge on her simply because she held a protest with Naam Tamilar supporters along the route where Vijay’s roadshow took place, after permission was denied for Naam Tamilar Katchi’s final-day campaign for the Dharapuram by-election? Chief Minister Vijay, did you boast from stage to stage that you were a pure force only to carry out this disgraceful politics?
In the current situation, where law and order and public peace across the state have completely deteriorated, isn’t it utterly disgraceful politics for Chief Minister Vijay, who lacks the courage to use the police to set things right, to falsely fabricate a case and arrest sister Karthika for political vendetta?
When a member of the ruling party in Nagai tried to smuggle narcotics worth 100 crore rupees, and the police under the TVK government lacked the ability to detect and arrest him in advance, if they then act as the ruling party’s hired force and support political vendetta, is this what alternative politics is?
If there is no arrest action against Ranipet district secretary Vijay Mohan, who sexually harassed a female office bearer of the party; if there is no arrest action against Sோளிங்கர் MLA Kapil, who attacked journalists; if there is no arrest action against MLA Saravanan, who acted as the mastermind behind the gang rape of a woman in Thiruvaikundam; but if arrest action is taken against seven Naam Tamilar relatives, including sister Karthika, who protested through nonviolent means, is this a government for the people?

If the TVK government is going to make the same mistakes that the Dravidian parties made during their previous terms in office, is this good governance? It is a rotten, lawless rule! If Chief Minister Vijay is going to act however he pleases today, driven by arrogance of power, the intoxication of office, and a hunger for praise, then what happened to all the rulers who behaved like this before? Let him look back a little into history and find out. Just because your party members praise you as the “permanent Chief Minister,” have you concluded, Chief Minister Vijay, that this rule and this power are permanent?
Did you think my younger brothers and sisters would be frightened by your oppression and repression and back away? We are the ones who stood up and fought politically even when you trembled in fear before Mr. Karunanidhi and Mrs. Jayalalithaa. If there is no case, the east will not dawn—I have raised my children every day by saying just that.
During the Karur tragedy, for a whole month, you and all the office-bearers of your party hid yourselves, fearing arrest and prosecution. But my brothers and sisters have never hidden like that. Your oppression cannot shake our mental strength even by an atom’s worth. In just five months of rule, a thousand and eight administrative failures, irregularities, and confusions have run rampant; governance has gone completely off the rails, and when the people, unable to bear it any longer, came out onto the streets to protest, if the lowly TVK government, which made no effort to correct them, turns its attention to political vendetta, the day this regime and this power will fall is not far away.
I strongly urge the TVK government to immediately release Karthika, who has been arrested in a false case, along with her husband Muruga Chandrakumar and all our Naam Tamilar relatives. Otherwise, I warn that it will surely have to face the consequences," he said sharply.
