Cases had been registered against Dharapuram Naam Tamilar candidate Karthika for incidents including laying siege to a police station during election campaigning and carrying out campaigning along the route taken by the Chief Minister.

Following this, on the 20th, Dharapuram police went to her home in Coimbatore and arrested Karthika, her husband, and several others from the Naam Tamilar party.

They asked, “Where is your husband?” and I said, “He is inside.” Before we could even ask what the matter was, they took my husband away without even a shirt on. I was in my nightclothes (nightie). I wasn’t even allowed to change clothes. Four female police officers surrounded me and took me away aggressively.

We asked, “What is the case, is there a summons?” I have two daughters. When they arrested me, they were crying and wailing. Without even answering them, they took both of us away. When I said, “Wait, I’ll inform my party leader, brother Seeman,” they took my phone and kept it with them before leaving.

There is no truth in the allegations made by the police

First they said it was Dharapuram, then took him to the Palladam police station. They kept him there for 4 hours. They did not allow him to speak to a lawyer or party leaders.

If you read the FIR registered by the police, it is completely a false accusation. We do not accept it. They say we spoke insultingly about female police officers; we did not say anything like that. Even now, as a woman candidate, they are the ones speaking insultingly about me. There is no truth in the allegations made by the police.

TVK government does not even know ABCD

It was only at 6 or 7 in the evening (nearly 12 hours later) that they showed me the arrest memo. When we were produced before the judge, the hearing lasted 6 hours. We have complete faith in the judiciary. We hope they will handle the case properly.

It is blatantly clear that the current government does not even know the ABCD of administration. The prices of all essential commodities, including rice, pulses, and vegetables, have risen. As a result, women, children, and poor people have been severely affected.

They are trying to suppress us

The government buys electricity generated from imported gas at 37 rupees per unit. But they are engaging in corruption by not demanding and obtaining the central government’s share of electricity due to Tamil Nadu. Law and order has deteriorated to the point where 8 murders are taking place within 24 hours. Repression is being unleashed on nurses. Because we have been speaking about people’s grievances on public platforms, they are trying to suppress us.

அவரைத் தொடர்பு கொண்டு இந்தக் கைது நடவடிக்கை குறித்து கேட்டோம். நம்மிடம் பேசிய அவர், "கைது செய்யப்பட்ட அன்று அதிகாலை வேளையில் காலிங் பெல் அடிக்கும் சத்தம் கேட்டது. கதவைத் திறந்து பார்த்தபோது பல்லடம் காவல் நிலையத்திலிருந்து வந்திருப்பதாகச் சொன்னார்கள். 'உள்ளே வாருங்கள், உட்காருங்கள்' என்று அவர்களிடம் சொன்னேன்.

உடை மாற்றக்கூட அனுமதிக்கவில்லை

தற்போதைய அரசுக்கு நிர்வாகத்தில் ஏபிசிடி (ABCD) கூட தெரியவில்லை என்பது வெட்ட வெளிச்சமாகத் தெரிகிறது. அரிசி, பருப்பு, காய்கறி என அனைத்து அத்தியாவசியப் பொருள்களின் விலையும் உயர்ந்துள்ளது. இதனால் பெண்கள், குழந்தைகள், ஏழை மக்கள் கடுமையாகப் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள்.
