Chennai: PMK leader Anbumani issued a statement yesterday: A notification has been issued to select 6,171 people for apprenticeship training in workshops under the Tamil Nadu jurisdiction of the Southern Railway.
Applications can be submitted until the 27th of this month, it was announced. In the apprenticeship recruitment notification, the clause requiring registration with Tamil Nadu employment offices has been removed.
In addition, it has been stated that people from the southern Kannada region, Nellore and Chittoor regions of Andhra Pradesh, and those living in other states such as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep can also apply.
As a result, the apprenticeship jobs that should be available to Tamil Nadu youth are being handed over to people from other states. This cannot be allowed.
By disregarding the usual rules and through this notification, Southern Railway’s attempt to hand over apprenticeship training positions in Tamil Nadu to people from other states is condemnable.
For more than a quarter of a century, people from other states have been taking away the jobs in the Southern Railway department. In the same way, apprenticeship opportunities were also being taken away, and after a long struggle, the employment rights of Tamil Nadu youth were restored in 2019.
That very right is now under threat again. The Southern Railway must immediately cancel the notification that is intended to deprive Tamil Nadu youth of apprenticeship opportunities.
Southern Railway should issue a new recruitment notification by adding the rule that only those registered with Tamil Nadu employment offices can apply for this post. For this, the Tamil Nadu government should put pressure on the Railway Board. He said this.
