New Delhi: BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey on Saturday strongly criticized the Congress party, saying that the Nehru-Gandhi family has always regarded Hindus as second-class citizens. He pointed to the 1966 protest held outside Parliament against cow slaughter.
As part of a series he posted on the 'X' platform under the title 'Congress's dark chapter,' he alleged that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government ordered police firing to suppress sadhus who were peacefully protesting on Parliament Street, demanding a nationwide ban on cow slaughter.
He noted that in 1966, the ascetic Karpatri Maharaj and Bharatiya Jana Sangh Member of Parliament Rameshwaranand met Indira Gandhi and requested that cow slaughter be banned, but Indira Gandhi refused to implement it.
Speaking about this, he said, "In Article 48 of the Indian Constitution drafted under the leadership of Dr. Ambedkar, it was stated that cow slaughter should be prohibited. In this context, the ascetic Karpatri Ji Maharaj, along with Bharatiya Jana Sangh MP Rameshwaranand, met Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in February 1966. Following that, in March 1966, the two met the then Home Minister Gulzarilal Nanda. However, since the 1967 general election was approaching at the time, and taking into account the possibility of a Hindu-Muslim divide over the cow slaughter issue, Indira refused to implement the ban on cow slaughter.

Following this, on November 6-7, 1966, thousands of sadhus, led by Swami Karpatri Maharaj, staged a peaceful protest on Parliament Street in Delhi. At that time, Indira Gandhi ordered gunfire to be opened on the sadhus. He stated that hundreds of sadhus were killed in this, and their bodies were concealed.
Moreover, this incident triggered widespread unrest and protests across the country. Following this, it was said that Indira Gandhi sought the support of the RSS to control the unrest and protests, and to avoid allegations against the government, she removed Gulzarilal Nanda, who was then the Home Minister, from the cabinet.
She ordered the formation of a judicial inquiry committee comprising RSS leader M.S. Golwalkar, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Amal Sarkar, Puri Shankaracharya, and Verghese Kurien of Amul Dairy. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Amal Sarkar was appointed as the head of the judicial committee.
Moreover, this committee did not hold any meetings, nor did it set up any office; naturally, it did not prepare or submit any report. He has said that this committee was deliberately rendered inactive, and that the Nehru-Gandhi family has always regarded Hindus as second-class citizens; they have never missed any opportunity to oppress them.
Nishikant Dubey's remarks have sparked major debates and controversies in Indian politics.
It is noteworthy that he has been continuously criticizing Congress on social media and in public forums for creating different laws for Hindus and others for its vote-bank politics, and for laying the foundation for division.
