New Delhi: The Kalighat Temple is located on the banks of the Adi Ganga river in Kolkata. It is regarded as a famous and sacred place of worship for Hindus. It is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Parvati, who was subjected to Lord Shiva’s wrath.
It is believed that the toes of the right foot of Goddess Parvati fell here. This temple has a distinctive idol of Goddess Kali with a long golden tongue. The historically significant Kalighat Temple in Kolkata has recently become embroiled in a major controversy.
For centuries, ornaments accumulated by devotees visiting the temple have been locked away in a chest. Although a government bank locker had been allotted to safeguard the goddess’s ornaments and other priceless items, a complaint has surfaced that the key to it has been missing since 1980.
Sabarna Roy Chowdhury, a key member of the region’s ancient landlord family, has filed a petition in the Kolkata court seeking an inquiry into this complaint.
Regarding this, Sabarna Roy stated in the petition: This security chest was created solely to safeguard the temple’s property and ornaments. Its key has been missing for more than 46 years.
The term of the committee responsible for managing the accounts of the temple’s assets has also ended.
Where are those priceless ornaments belonging to the goddess? Are they safe? Deep concern has arisen.
Moreover, there is suspicion that financial irregularities and frauds worth more than Rs. 1,000 crore may have taken place in this. Therefore, this matter should be investigated and legal action taken. This is what the petition stated.
