Vellore: Developing countries should maintain good relations with neighboring countries and use the money spent on weapons for education, healthcare, public health, and the economic upliftment of the underprivileged and middle-class people, said VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan.
The international knowledge and technology festival Gravitas - 2026 began yesterday at VIT University in Vellore. HCL Tech’s Global Head of Digital Business Services, Bavan Vadapalli, Executive Vice President of Talent Acquisition, Prince Jayakumar, and Bangladesh Deputy Consul Mohammed Ali Musaman participated and spoke as special guests.
At this three-day event being held at VIT Vellore, a total of 227 events have been organized, including 31 sessions, 62 workshops, 57 technical competitions, and 10 entrepreneurship events. In particular, the Indian Army’s modern combat vehicle technology exhibition, set up by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), greatly attracted visitors.
VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan, speaking as the chief guest, said: We are seeing drone technology being used extensively in battlefields. The same drones can also be used to increase productivity and for constructive work. In this, young people must be determined.
Some countries in the world have made arms production itself their industry. They operate with the aim that they can sell their weapons only if war breaks out. India is also one of the countries that imports weapons the most globally. If developing countries maintain good relations with their neighboring countries, they can save the money spent on weapons and use it for education, medicine, healthcare, the upliftment of the underprivileged, and the economic development of the middle class.
Currently, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are competing healthily among themselves. Accordingly, developing countries should foster both cooperation and healthy competition among themselves and move forward economically. He said this.
