Tambaram: Bhuvaneswari (24) is from the Chitlapakkam area. She is an MBA graduate and has been working for the past month at a private company in Tambaram. Having received her first month’s salary, she planned to share her happiness by giving sweets to the homeless.
Accordingly, the night before yesterday, after finishing work and on her way home, she was giving laddus bought with her first month’s salary to homeless people sleeping on the pedestrian overbridge near Tambaram Sanatorium.
Then the man who came there sprayed pepper spray on Bhuvaneshwari’s face. This caused a burning sensation in her eyes, and it appears that the man tried to snatch the 3-sovereign gold chain she was wearing around her neck.
As a result, Bhuvaneshwari screamed. The people there then caught the man who had tried to snatch the chain and handed him over to the Tambaram police.
During the Tambaram police’s inquiry into the man who was caught, it was found that his name was Kuppusamy (46), and that he works at an IT company on OMR.
He had been living in his own house in Pammal, and had lost several lakhs of rupees in online trading. As lenders continued to pressure him, he decided to sell his house to repay the debt and sold it.
However, the investigation also revealed that he did not give the Rs. 60 lakh from the house sale to the creditors, and instead lost the entire amount again in online trading.
Police said that he, who is currently living with his family in Melmaruvathur, had bought pepper spray and, in an attempt to escape from debt troubles, tried to snatch a chain for the first time from Bhuvaneswari, but was caught. Tambaram police registered a case against Kuppusamy, produced him in court, and lodged him in prison.
