The venues for the events that the Chief Minister is scheduled to attend in Pudukkottai and Erode were suddenly changed on Monday (Nov. 2)
Pudukkottai
In Pudukkottai, it has been suddenly decided to hold today’s government function, which Chief Minister Joseph Vijay will attend, in the district collector’s office conference hall itself, instead of the grand stage that had been prepared for the event.
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay will arrive in Pudukkottai on Monday morning to inaugurate completed projects, including the new bus stand and the modern indoor sports stadium, and to distribute welfare assistance to beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister, who will arrive in Tiruchi at 9 a.m. by special flight from Chennai, will then reach Pudukkottai by road.
Work to set up a grand venue at the Armed Reserve ground for the government function, to accommodate around 3,000 people, had been under way for the past four days.
In this situation, an emergency meeting was held on Sunday night at the Collector’s office, attended by ministers, the Collector, and other key officials.
Following this, it was decided to shift the venue of the function from the Armed Reserve ground to the Collector’s office itself, and emergency cleaning work is also being carried out in the Collector’s office premises from early morning.
The Chief Minister’s security personnel, along with senior police officers who have come from outside the district, have brought the entire district collector’s office premises under their control.
As for the district collector’s office, it is a palace dating back to the era of the Thondaiman kings. Although this campus covers an area of 100 acres, the built-up section is quite small.
The conference hall on the third floor has seating capacity for only 100 people. Since thousands of beneficiaries had been planned for the event, it remains a question how they will be accommodated in the relocated venue.
Even though there are two lift facilities, they will not be sufficient even for officials and ministers to come and go.
Police explain that security reasons alone are behind the transfer.

Erode
The government event that Chief Minister Vijay was scheduled to attend on Tuesday (Nov. 3) at a private engineering college in Perundurai Vaikkal Medu has been shifted to another location.
Preparations were under way in earnest for the ceremony to provide bank credit linkage of Rs. 1,110 crore to 9,000 women self-help groups on behalf of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
Meanwhile, the event has been shifted to a private marriage hall on Kanchikoil Road.
District Collector S. Kanthasamy said this.
