Chennai: Yesterday, a power outage lasting about an hour occurred in the ministers’ rooms at the Secretariat, disrupting work.
In Tamil Nadu, power outages are widespread in both urban and rural areas. In particular, because long power cuts occur at night, children, the elderly, and others face great hardship.
In this situation, a sudden power outage occurred yesterday at around 10:30 a.m. in the rooms of ministers Sengottaiyan, N. Anand, Venkataramanan, Ranjith Kumar, and others at the Chennai Secretariat. As a result, work in the ministers’ offices was disrupted.
In this regard, the explanation issued by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board said: A temporary interruption in power supply occurred only in some parts of the first floor of the main building of the Secretariat. Power supply on all other floors remained normal without interruption. The power distribution infrastructure within the Secretariat complex is maintained by the Public Works Department.
Among the 4 power switches supplying electricity to the first floor, a technical fault was found only in the B-phase power supply of one switch. Following this, Public Works Department officials immediately inspected the issue, repaired the fault, and restored the power supply. Subsequently, normal electricity supply to the first floor was fully restored at 11:25 a.m. After that, power supply has been functioning normally on all floors of the Secretariat. It was stated thus.
