Chennai: DMK leader M.K. Stalin has urged the President to cancel the SIR exercise across the country and remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from office.
The letter he wrote on this was handed over yesterday by the party MPs T.R. Baalu and Trichy Siva, who met President Droupadi Murmu.
The petition stated that in Tamil Nadu, the draft list after the SIR had 97 lakh 37,832 fewer voters than the previous list. In the final list, there were 74 lakh 7,207 fewer people. On average, about 31,655 people had been removed per constituency.
In a research article published by The Hindu BusinessLine, it was stated that in 99 constituencies where fewer than 20,000 deletions took place, TVK won in 24 seats and DMK in 27 seats; in 69 constituencies where more than 30,000 deletions took place, TVK won in 52 seats and DMK in 11 seats; and in 10 constituencies where more than 80,000 deletions were made, TVK won. It was also stated that, on average, 31,000 names were deleted in constituencies won by DMK, and about 27,000 names were deleted in constituencies won by AIADMK. These changes may have affected the election results.
In Tiruppathur, DMK candidate K.R. Periyakaruppan won by just one vote, and in Kanniyakumari, Polur, Tirukkovilur, and Paramathi Velur, the results were decided by margins of 214, 227, 285, and 308 votes respectively. In Kolathur, about 103,812 names were removed by December 2025.
In 2026, I received 74,202 votes. The margin was 8,795 votes. Therefore, a large number of voters have been removed in a way that prevents my victory.
More than 13 crore names have been removed from the draft lists of 30 states and Union Territories, including West Bengal and Punjab.
Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have recorded objections to the decision of the Chief Election Commissioner.
A report published by ‘The Hindu’ said that restrictions had been imposed in West Bengal in such a way that voter registration officers could not inspect voters’ enumeration forms.
On the basis of the evidence that has emerged in this manner, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should be removed from office.
The legality of the deletion of 97,37,832 names in Tamil Nadu that were not included in the draft list, the final list, and the impact on election results should be referred to the Supreme Court for advice.
SIR should be completely scrapped in all states, and the list should be revised. A forensic investigation should be conducted into ECI-Net and ERO-Net. The ballot paper system should be brought back. He said this.
