Andhra Pradesh Congress president and the sister of former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, Y.S. Sharmila, has decided to change the wedding venue after Jagan refused to allow the use of family property for her daughter’s wedding. This incident has once again brought to light the ongoing property dispute and rift in the relationship between the two.
In this regard, Sharmila, who issued a strong statement on X, announced that her daughter Anjali Reddy’s wedding will no longer take place at the Yelahanka family property. “I am not a lowly person who grabs what does not belong to me,” she said, claiming that after Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister, the property was entirely allotted to her and her children as part of the division of the family assets. “This is the truth spoken in God’s name,” she asserted.

Explaining the emotional significance of the place, Sharmila said that her father, former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), had stayed in that house many times, and that her daughter had grown up there. "Every Telugu household says that conducting a daughter’s wedding in one’s own home is a blessing for parents. But we are deeply saddened that we could not fulfill my daughter’s wish to have the house she grew up in serve as her wedding venue," she wrote in anguish.
Earlier, Jagan Mohan Reddy had refused to provide the Yelahanka palace for his niece’s wedding ceremony, citing security and privacy concerns. In a letter to Sharmila earlier this month, Jagan pointed out that the wedding event would bring a large number of guests, cooks, decorators, and other service providers into the residential complex.
"In the end, this is my home, and I want to ensure that my family and I are safe here," he had said. He also said that he was happy about his daughter-in-law's wedding, wished her a happy married life, and offered his Lotus Pond house in Hyderabad as an alternative venue.
Sharmila's daughter Anjali Reddy is set to marry Dr. Somala Raghuram Reddy. Their wedding is scheduled for November 25, and the reception ceremony is planned to be held in Hyderabad on December 5.
This marriage venue dispute has once again brought into the spotlight the property issues said to be simmering between Sharmila and her brother, YSR Congress Party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy. The matter has also drawn political attention. Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s criticism of the way Jagan treats his sister and mother has further intensified the political clash between the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party.
