New Delhi: The SIR declaration and Form 6 have been separated. This has come into effect on the Election Commission’s ECINET portal.
Form 6 must be submitted to add a new voter’s name to the electoral roll. Through this form, details such as the applicant’s name, date of birth, and address are collected. Information is also sought on whether the applicant’s parents’ names are included in the voter list.
The voter list was amended in Form 6 during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Accordingly, it must be specified whether the voter’s name appears in the 2003 SIR list or whether the name of their mother or father appears.
During the online SIR registration, there was a condition that only if this section was completed could one proceed to the next stage. It is said that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Sandhu and Vivek Joshi objected to this new procedure.
In this regard, the opposition parties have been engaged in a continuous protest. A case has also been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the SIR exercise. In connection with this case, an affidavit was recently filed on behalf of the Election Commission. It stated that in the online upload, Form 6 and the SIR affidavit would be separated individually.
This procedure came into effect yesterday on the Election Commission’s ECINET website. Regarding this, Election Commission sources said, “Form 6 and the SIR declaration form were submitted using a single OTP and electronic signature. This has now been changed. From now on, they must be submitted separately as two forms. OTP and electronic signature must be done separately,” they said.
