A video was released yesterday showing relatives speaking for more than two hours while keeping the body of the deceased at the electric crematorium in Thirumazhisai near Chennai because there was no electricity. Regarding this, Minister Nirmal Kumar had posted on his X account, “The information is false; there is no disruption in power supply, and the crematorium’s internal electrical infrastructure is under the control of the local panchayat.” In this situation, TTV Dhinakaran, on his X page, said, “Under the TVK government, should those who come to the electric crematorium to cremate the dead also bring a generator with them?
The minister’s act of hiding the truth and seeking publicity even in a cremation is shameful! In Thiruvallur district, at the Thirumazhisai electric crematorium, due to a power outage, a son who was unable to cremate his deceased father’s body and had to wait for a long time because of the electricity board’s negligence, has released a moving video saying that he rented a generator at his own expense and carried out the cremation, which is deeply distressing.
Even after complaints were filed about the power outage, the electricity board and the concerned minister failed to take proper action, and they posted false information on social media claiming that they themselves arranged a generator so the funeral could proceed without delay; the affected person has exposed this through his own video. Isn’t it shameful for the Energy Minister to spread false information that the electricity board arranged a generator, instead of taking proper steps to fix the power outage?
The minister’s act of seeking publicity by hiding the truth amid people’s suffering is disgusting. Since the DMK government came to power, from the theft of hard disks at the Electricity Board headquarters to irregularities in electricity billing, an indirect hike in power charges, continuous unannounced power cuts, and especially public protests over power outages in the Chief Minister’s own constituency, along with confusion in power procurement, the Energy Minister, who has pushed the state’s most fundamental energy sector for economic growth into a deep pit through his incompetent administration and speaks nothing but empty rhetoric with publicity as his only priority, has also been entrusted with several other important departments, including the Law Department and the Anti-Corruption Department, which raises serious questions about the Chief Minister’s administrative competence.
The Chief Minister, who is supposed to monitor the functioning of key departments and find solutions to the people’s problems, instead ignores all of that, hands over departmental responsibilities to ministers who do not properly carry out their duties, and watches as if nothing is happening. By evading his own responsibility and abetting administrative mismanagement, and by continuing to keep ministers who cannot even meet the people’s basic needs in important posts, people are also raising the question of whom the Chief Minister is governing for.
Therefore, I urge the Energy Minister, who goes around making empty talk that is of no benefit whatsoever to the people or the state, to at least now focus on the functioning of his department and take appropriate steps to find a solution to the hardships people are facing due to power outages. I also emphasize at this time that Chief Minister Mr. Joseph Vijay should pay direct attention to the Energy Department, which has directly affected everyone from the general public to industrial enterprises," he has noted.
