AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran has raised questions about TVK functionaries who are getting caught one after another in sexual assault incidents against women.
In an X post released by TTV Dhinakaran on this matter, he said, ``In two separate sexual offense incidents—one involving sexual harassment of a 65-year-old elderly woman who was staying on a roadside platform in Chennai’s Ashok Nagar, and another involving sexual harassment of a woman near Ettayapuram in Thoothukudi district—TVK functionaries were involved. Moreover, video footage has also surfaced on social media and in the media showing TVK members threatening members of the public who questioned the TVK functionary involved in the sexual offense near Ettayapuram, even in the presence of police officers.
In Thoothukudi district, the sexual allegation said to have been made against a female TVK functionary by the Srivaikuntam MLA, and in the same district the sexual allegation against the TVK district secretary and another functionary, along with various other sexual incidents, show that because the TVK has failed to take appropriate action against its members at the right time, they are freely engaging in such crimes.
At the same time, the question has arisen among the public whether the Chief Minister, who said “No compromise” on sexual crimes against women, is making “compromise” only for TVK members. The Chief Minister, who said in the Assembly itself that every crime that occurs daily in Tamil Nadu has a reason, what explanation is he going to give for the allegation that most of those involved in sexual crimes against women after TVK assumed power in Tamil Nadu are TVK functionaries?
The Chief Minister says that the main reason for crimes committed against women is the use of drugs, which has taken root in society. If so, why has he not implemented it so far, even though he made it one of his first three signatures to prevent it? Likewise, when allegations arose that one of the ministers in his cabinet had used drugs, why was not even a minimal inquiry conducted against him?
Overall, it is shameful for Chief Minister Mr. Joseph Vijay, who has taken no constructive action either in anti-drug measures or in crimes against women, to say “No compromise.” Therefore, I urge Mr. Joseph Vijay, the leader of TVK and the Chief Minister, to ensure that strict action is taken without bias against TVK functionaries who have been accused in cases of sexual harassment against women, and that necessary measures are taken to firmly suppress those who commit sexual crimes against women in the future,” he said.
