New Delhi: Three companies have applied for permission to provide satellite-based internet services in India. Among them, Elon Musk’s ‘Starlink’ was the last to apply, and it was also the last to submit the security-related documents, central government sources said yesterday.
Elon Musk had accused some industrialists of obstructing Starlink’s service in India. In this situation, this information has been released by the central government. It has been stated that India welcomes anyone who comes to provide internet services. Considering the service’s price, quality, and value, customers themselves will choose the company they prefer.
Among the three companies, Jio, OneWeb, and Starlink, licenses have been granted to all three, even though Starlink applied late and received its license later. All of these application processes have been carried out with complete transparency. Before starting commercial services, all companies have been instructed to meet their technical capabilities and security requirements.
Bharati Airtel-backed OneWeb was the first, followed by Reliance’s Jio in second place and Musk’s Starlink in third, to submit security compliance documents. The central government has not yet taken a final decision on spectrum allocation and its pricing. It has been stated that services will begin in full only after these two conditions are met, and that this will benefit the entire sector.
