Chennai: In view of the Diwali festival, a special package containing 10 grocery items will be sold for Rs. 200 in cooperative stores. Minister Gandhiraj will launch this scheme in Chennai today.
In Tamil Nadu, the prices of essential commodities including rice, pulses, onions, and oil continue to rise. In order to reduce the burden on the public, the Tamil Nadu government has been taking various measures.
Onions and toor dal are being procured by the government itself and sold through ration shops at prices lower than the open market.
In cooperative stores, Sanna rice is sold at Rs. 30 per kg, urad dal at Rs. 140 per kg, garlic and coriander at Rs. 240 each per kg, and chillies at Rs. 330 per kg.
Following this, a special package containing 10 essential grocery items will be sold through cooperative outlets for Rs. 200.
This package will be sold through 128 sales outlets of cooperative wholesale stores, primary cooperative stores, and cooperative marketing societies operating in areas outside municipalities.
This will include 10 types of grocery items, with 250 grams each of chickpeas, green gram, and tamarind; 100 grams each of mustard, chili, and urad dal; 150 grams each of coriander and garlic; and 50 grams each of cumin and fennel, for a total weight of 1,450 grams.
These 10 items will be sold only as a combined grocery package. They will not be sold separately. The project will be launched in Chennai today by the Minister for the Cooperation Department, V. Gandhi Raj.
It is noteworthy that this scheme has been arranged to help people buy essential grocery items at low prices as the Diwali festival approaches.
