Kelambakkam: Two rockets manufactured at a private rocket production facility are set to be launched into space simultaneously tomorrow (Oct. 10). Under this project, named the “Rumi Twin Mission,” the two rockets, named “Rumi 1” and “Rumi 2,” will be launched from Thiruvidanthai near Mamallapuram.
Young scientist Anandh Megalingam is running the rocket manufacturing center called ‘Space Zone’ in Thaiyur, near Kelambakkam. Last year, after various stages of research, the first rocket was launched from this center and successfully tested. Following this, studies for a plan to launch two rockets into space at the same time were carried out over the past two years.
It is said that this effort was undertaken based on the advice of Mayilsamy Annadurai, who was the director of the Chandrayaan project. Both rockets have been designed using hybrid rocket technology that was developed entirely domestically. Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi and others are expected to participate in this event and offer their greetings.
Mayilsamy Annadurai, DRDO scientist Manikkavasagam, and former Sri Lankan minister Senthil Thondaman are among those participating. Anand Megalingam, from Kelambakkam, completed his schooling at the Bhuvana Krishnan Matriculation School there. He later pursued higher education in the rocket research division at Bharath University, Tambaram.
Due to his interest in the space sector, he has started and is running the “Space Zone” center with an investment of about Rs. 4.5 crore. This center has 12 research and testing laboratories. While 28 young scientists are working there, Anand Megalingam has said that this has created employment for 75 people.
