Chennai: On Police Commemoration Day, Chief Minister Vijay issued orders for accident insurance compensation totaling Rs. 5.96 crore to the families of 7 police personnel, including 6 police officers who died in the line of duty and one police officer who is in a coma.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on Oct. 21 to honor the sacrifice of the 10 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force who attained martyrdom in the 1959 attack by Chinese forces in Ladakh, as well as police personnel in the Tamil Nadu Police Department who died while on duty.
In connection with this, at an event held yesterday in the DGP office complex, Chief Minister Vijay paid floral tribute in front of the police memorial. He accepted the police force’s parade salute. He then planted a sapling. Earlier, DGP Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, tri-service officers, and retired police officers also paid their respects.
Following this, the Chief Minister issued orders for a personal accident insurance amount of Rs. 5.96 crore under the government’s salary package scheme to the families of 7 people in total, including 6 police personnel who died while on duty in the Tamil Nadu Police Department and one police officer who is in a coma. It is noteworthy that 154 police personnel and officers across the country, including 6 from Tamil Nadu, died while on duty.
Later, during the event, Chief Minister Vijay went to the DGP’s room. DGP Mahesh Kumar Agarwal asked him to sit in his chair. Refusing that, the Chief Minister made the DGP sit in his own chair and sat in the opposite chair, speaking with him for a while. Home Secretary A. Karthik, Chennai Police Commissioner Amalraj, and other officials were present.
In this regard, in a blog post released yesterday, the Chief Minister said, “Salutations to the police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the noble duty of maintaining peace and law and order in the country. The dedication of police officers who work with courage and vigilance, facing many challenges such as natural disasters, accidents, and criminal incidents, is worthy of praise. Let us honor the noble work of the police force, which stands as the nation’s shield, working tirelessly without regard for time or circumstances.”
