Tiruchi: The city crime branch police have registered a case against 6 people, including a DMK area secretary, for allegedly usurping land worth Rs. 50 crore belonging to the Srirangam Ranganathar temple using forged documents. In this matter, Minister Ramesh criticized that the DMK members have proven themselves to be scientifically corrupt.
N. Ramkumar is from Thiruvanaikkaval. He is the DMK Srirangam area secretary. Srirangam temple Joint Commissioner Sivarாம்குமார் filed a complaint with the city crime branch police on Sept. 10, alleging that Ramkumar had usurped land worth Rs. 50 crore belonging to the Ranganathar temple on Gandhi Road in Srirangam using forged documents.
In this, the 7,515 square feet of land with a bungalow belonging to the temple on Gandhi Road in Srirangam was sold and registered on Dec. 5, 2022, in the name of Ramkumar by Chennai Nanganallur Rangarajan’s wife Padmaja, Bengaluru Krishnasamy’s wife Vijaya, and their brothers Kodambakkam Soundararajan and Puducherry Lawspet Venkatavaradhan, claiming it was their land, at the Srirangam Sub-Registrar’s Office.
For this, they received Rs. 2.90 crore. It had been mentioned that the then Srirangam sub-registrar was also involved. Based on this complaint, a case has been registered under six sections against six people, including Ramkumar and the sub-registrar, and an investigation is under way. It is noteworthy that Ramkumar is known to be close to former minister Sekar Babu.
Scientific Corruption: Meanwhile, speaking to reporters yesterday about this matter, Minister Ramesh said that temple property had been illegally transferred into the name of DMK area secretary Ramkumar by preparing forged documents. They obtained a certificate from the Puducherry police station stating that the original deed for the land had been lost, and then registered the property. Through this, they have proved that DMK members are engaging in scientific corruption in this matter, he said.
Regarding this, Ramkumar said, “This property is ancestral property of Ranganatha Iyengar. His descendants have served as judges, scientists, and CBI lawyers. It was registered only after the documents were verified. At present, the case concerning this property is in the High Court.
They have filed the case without knowing this. No wrongdoing has taken place. Some people within my own party may have done this because of my position,” he said.
