Puducherry: “Under the NR Congress-BJP coalition government, Puducherry has now turned into a killing field. Four murders are happening casually every week,” criticized DMK leader M.K. Stalin.
The campaign for the by-election in Puducherry’s Thattanchavady constituency ends tomorrow. In this context, in a video message released in support of DMK candidate Sethu Selvam, the party’s leader M.K. Stalin said:
“Like in Tamil Nadu, the DMK is a party that has contributed to the prosperity and welfare of the people of Puducherry. When danger came through the Governor in Puducherry over the past few years, the DMK fought for the state.
Whenever the DMK has been in power in Puducherry, we have implemented new schemes. Following Kalaignar’s promise of “We will do what we say, and say what we do,” we have worked for Puducherry’s development.
The Thalikku Thangam scheme, eggs in the noon meal program, and the Lawspet farmers’ market are achievements of the DMK government. Keeping this in mind, the people of the Thattanchavady constituency should vote.
This is a by-election imposed on the people. Rangasamy contested in two constituencies in the general election and won. Since the law requires him to resign from one constituency seat, he abandoned Thattanchavady constituency. He has washed his hands of you, who trusted him and voted for him. This time, you too should abandon him.
N.R. Congress and the BJP alliance have fielded a candidate. You know better than I do who he is.
You know why the court barred him from contesting last time. Rangasamy has fielded that very person as the candidate. On the other hand, Congress has fielded a candidate.
If the N.R. Congress candidate is the owner of an empire of corruption, it is well known to everyone that the Congress candidate is the owner of an empire of liquor.
But the DMK candidate has an honest background. Candidate Sethuselvam fought for workers and went to jail. If he is elected, he will work sincerely for the people.
Has Rangasamy done no good for the people? There isn’t even an MLA office in the constituency. Vote for the DMK so that free house-site pattas can be obtained, new factories can be set up in the industrial estate, and a solution can be found to power cuts.
Some are asking whether the DMK will win in the by-election and form the government. Even if there is no change in government, there will be a change in the appearance of the constituency.
Under the NR Congress-BJP coalition government, Puducherry has now turned into a killing field. Four murders are happening casually in a week. Murders are taking place one after another in broad daylight, at noon, in the evening, and at midnight.
What are Chief Minister Rangasamy and Home Minister Namassivayam doing? This is a government that does not even open its mouth to say that action will be taken against the culprits.
They said that if there were a double-engine government, good governance would prevail. Not even one engine is working here. Law and order and administrative breakdown are tormenting Puducherry. To call all this to account, the DMK candidate must win.
Only when problems arise does Rangasamy take up the statehood weapon. Rangasamy, who passes resolutions in the Assembly, Rangasamy, who cries that officials are obstructing him, could have taken the MLAs to Delhi and fought, couldn’t he? Why didn’t he do it? After all, there is a coalition government at the Centre.
You came to power by saying that you would secure statehood for Puducherry in the last election, didn’t you? All that N.R. Congress and the BJP have done to the people who trusted and voted for them is betrayal. The Congress, which stabbed the DMK in the back in the last election, is now back in the fray. Even while being in the alliance in the last election, the Congress fielded candidates in 5 constituencies. But the DMK overcame the betrayal.
DMK candidates won in the Kalapet and Raj Bhavan constituencies. The traitors suffered a crushing defeat. The same defeat, or rather, the Congress should not even get its deposit in the Thattanchavady constituency.
As far as Puducherry is concerned, the Congress party is a thing of the past. We must teach a lesson to the two candidates standing against us. To ensure that the voice of the people rings out strongly in the Assembly, we must vote for the Secular Progressive Alliance candidate, Sethu Selvam, and make him win by a large margin,” he said in his video post.
