A shocking incident has occurred in Puducherry, where a woman was sexually assaulted after being offered a “lift” on a two-wheeler. Demanding action against the culprit responsible for the incident, Uralaiyampet constituency MLA Nehru, backed by the T.V.K., staged a protest by laying siege to the Legislative Assembly today along with his supporters.
At one point, when they tried to enter the Legislative Assembly, assembly security personnel stopped them. However, MLA Nehru and his supporters broke through and entered the Assembly, then sat on the steps and carried out a sit-in protest.

Following that, they tried to go to Public Works Minister Malladi Krishnarao's room. At that point, MLA Nehru and his supporters, who went inside despite being stopped by the guards there, had a heated argument with the minister.
At that time, an unusual situation arose because they also attacked the doors there. After being forcibly removed from there, they stood outside the minister’s room and shouted, “Down with Minister Malladi Krishnarao.” After that, they returned to the steps of the Legislative Assembly and staged a dharna.
The temporary Speaker, who came there after being informed, told MLA Nehru, “This Legislative Assembly has its own dignity. So you, as an MLA, should not do such things.” In response, “This Legislative Assembly has neither respect nor dignity.
Because MLA Nehru angrily said, "This is a petty assembly," the temporary Speaker Anbazhagan abandoned his attempt to pacify them and left the place. At that time, MLA Nehru’s supporters raised slogans of `Down with the Speaker… Down with the Speaker…' Speaking to reporters then, MLA Nehru said, ``Using the election code of conduct as an excuse, they are trying to hide criminal incidents.

"A woman selling greens was threatened and sexually assaulted. Who was the culprit? The police have not released any information on whether it was one person or more than one," he said.
When asked about his allegation, investigating officers at the Periyakadai police station said, ``Within a few hours of the incident, we arrested the culprit and registered a case. How can we release details such as the culprit's photograph at a press conference before the victim has conducted an identification parade?"
Following that, fishermen from the villages gathered at the Legislative Assembly in support of Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, sat on the steps of the Assembly, raised slogans against MLA Nehru, and staged a dharna. At that time, “MLA Nehru said that he had brought about a hundred goons to stage a protest, and they surrounded Public Works Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, who had come to the Assembly, and used abusive words.
In addition, in a threatening manner, MLA Nehru said, ‘You will not be here in four days.’ The incident he referred to has no connection whatsoever with Fisheries Minister Malladi Krishna Rao.

Regarding that incident, MLA Nehru should have spoken to the police department and to its minister, the Home Minister. In that case, what does it mean for MLA Nehru to say that he would remove Minister Malladi Krishnarao within four days?
Therefore, a case should be registered against him immediately under the Goondas Act. If such action is not taken, we will launch a massive statewide protest," they said.
Following that, Legislative Assembly Marshal Palanisamy and Assembly Secretary Dayalan both filed a complaint at the Periyakadai police station. Based on that complaint, a case has been registered against MLA Nehru and his supporters under seven sections, including criminal intimidation and death threats.
When asked about this, MLA Nehru said, “The police have filed false cases against me and my supporters for demanding justice for a woman who was a victim of sexual assault. Our supporters neither attacked anyone there nor prevented them from doing their work. But they have falsely registered cases under seven sections. I will face as many cases as needed for the people.”
