The photo exhibition 'No Idea Is Final' by Ryan Vadra, son of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and a photographer, was scheduled to be held yesterday at Bikaner House in Delhi. A few hours before the exhibition was to begin, Ryan Vadra has alleged that the Bikaner House administration, run by the Rajasthan state government, pressured them to remove most of the photographs displayed there. In this regard, he said, ``Out of the 105 photographs taken focusing on the youth protests recently held in the capital, 75 photographs must be removed immediately.
Otherwise, the administration has said that the exhibition permit will be revoked. The images ordered to be removed include two pictures featuring the Indian national flag. One of those pictures was forcibly removed by the administration in my absence, and in the end, a total of 74 photographs were removed from there. Our aim is to artistically document the people’s movements taking place across the country, and the poetry and rhythm that emerge when people come together.
But the timing and circumstances were not right. Therefore, the deputy and chief resident commissioners said that the content of these photographs was "objectionable." He stated, "No one should be deprived of artistic freedom of expression." Regarding this incident, Congress party senior leader and Ryan's mother Priyanka Gandhi said, "They are trying to crush the voices of the country's youth. There is nothing defamatory or personally hurtful in the photographs. They contain only direct records of the protest.
"By asking for it to be removed, it becomes clear that there is no democracy in the country. Those in power are afraid of others' freedom of expression," he noted.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, commenting on this, said, "Censoring to the extent of refusing even to allow an image of the national flag is not the fault of art; it is the fault of this government. This shows how much this government fears opinions and photographs."
No official explanations have been issued on this by the Bikaner House administration, which operates under the Rajasthan BJP government.
