Lucknow: The heirs of political party leaders are preparing to contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. They are trying to contest on behalf of the ruling BJP and the opposition parties, Samajwadi Party and Congress.
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are set to be held early next year. The next generation of political families in the state is preparing to enter the electoral arena. With this, Uttar Pradesh’s political field is once again set to become an entryway for the heirs of politicians. These young heirs are also members of families of parliamentarians, MPs, and Assembly MLAs.
Not only them, but the family members of deceased party leaders are also claiming their political succession rights.
All of them are the next generation of influential political families. For this, these new young leaders are engaged in efforts to strengthen their connection with the people of their regions. This can also be clearly seen on social media.
The elder son of Union Defence Minister and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh, Pankaj Singh, is a BJP MLA. Now Rajnath is trying to get his younger son, Neeraj Singh, to contest on behalf of the BJP. Neeraj, who has been active in the BJP for a long time, was recently appointed as a state vice president in the party as well. So far, he has not had the opportunity to contest a विधानसभा election. This time, the BJP may consider giving Neeraj a chance.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana has also been an MLA eight times. His son Karan Mahana is actively involved in the party and is also engaged in public outreach work. He too is seeking a chance to be a candidate in the BJP. Reports also say that Rita Bahuguna Joshi, an MP from the Uttar Pradesh BJP, is seeking an opportunity for her son Mayank Joshi. The Samajwadi Party wants to bring him into its fold and field him as a candidate. This is because Rita is the daughter of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, who was once the Congress Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
In Amethi, Sanjay Singh, who was a key leader of the Congress, switched to the BJP in 2019. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP on behalf of the BJP. He is trying to bring his lawyer daughter into politics through the assembly elections.
Similarly, the heirs of Samajwadi Party MPs and MLAs are also actively trying to become candidates in the Uttar Pradesh elections.
Ajit Prasad, the son of Ayodhya Lok Sabha member Avdhesh Prasad, is preparing to contest the assembly election. He had earlier contested and lost in the by-election held for the seat vacated by his father’s resignation as an MLA. Lalji Verma, the Samajwadi Party MP from the Kadohathi constituency, is preparing to field his daughter, Dr. Saya, in the election.
Thufani Saroj is the Samajwadi Party MLA from the Kerakat constituency in Jaunpur district. His daughter Priya Saroj is a Samajwadi Party MP. Priya recently represented India at the United Nations. Thufani Saroj now wants to involve his son Dhananjay in politics as well.
This list also includes the family members of deceased political leaders. Aam Padi, a Samajwadi MLA and senior member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, passed away in July this year at the age of 90. His son, Mustajab Aalam, wants to contest from Aalam Padi’s Nizamabad constituency. Ram Govind Chaudhary, who served as a minister in the Samajwadi government, also recently passed away. His son, Ranjit Chaudhary, is seeking a chance to contest from his father’s Bansdih constituency. Chhote Lal, the BJP MLA from Fatehabad constituency in Agra, recently passed away. The party is planning to field one of his sons as a candidate. Similarly, the list of heirs goes on.
