Chennai: The Central Crime Branch police are conducting searches at locations linked to ‘Gem’ Granites businessman Veeramani, who was arrested in a POCSO case. Searches are under way at the Gem Granites office in Royapettah, Chennai, and at his house on R.K. Salai.
Earlier, in this case, the police had sent a summons to Prakash, the son of Kannaiya, the general secretary of the railway union SRMU. However, it has been said that he is abroad. Following this, a look-out notice has been issued against him.
Meanwhile, it is also noteworthy that Minister Rajmohan said, “Under the TVK government, no one accused in sexual offense cases will be able to escape, whoever they may be. The POCSO case against Gem Granite Veeramani is being investigated under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister. In the previous government, crores of rupees changed hands to drop this case.”
In the POCSO case involving R. Veeramani (84), the founder of ‘Gem’ Granites, which has caused a major stir in Tamil Nadu, shocking background details are emerging one by one.
A child rights activist’s complaint, filed last year with the Sexual Offences Prevention Wing under the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, along with a pen drive attached to it, led to the arrest of Veeramani, the founder of ‘Gem Granites’. After that, his misdeeds began to come to light one by one.
He rented a house in Teynampet and brought girls and women to that house, where he engaged in sexual relations with them. In particular, Veeramani satisfied his sexual desires by giving money, cell phones, and luxury gift items to girls living in poverty. It is said that more than 100 girls may have been affected by him. In this case, Veeramani’s assistants, Shanti and her husband Mahendra Simkan, who had been looking after his Teynampet house, were already arrested.
Following this, the police yesterday arrested and are questioning a man named Ganesan, who had kept secret videos of girls, had worked at Gem Granites for 23 years, and is currently employed at Balaji Global Enterprises. The police have also issued summons to several others in this case.
A complaint regarding Veeramani’s sexual offenses was filed on 06.10.2025. The next day, the police registered a case. After that, the police questioned Veeramani about the details recorded in the video. However, he stated that the person with the girls was not him.
Following this, Shanti, who was at the house in Teynampet, and her husband Mahendra Simkan were questioned. However, they stated that no such criminal acts had taken place.
Police also questioned an employee of the eye hospital and the puncture shop owner in the same area. They stated that no outsiders came to the house in question. After recording their statements, the police approached the court seeking to close the case without conducting a deeper investigation.
At that time, in the petition filed before the court, it was stated that despite all efforts to identify the elderly man in the video, no information could be found about the person in the recording. Furthermore, the video recording that was obtained had been recorded in the year 2019. When it was examined by cyber crime experts, they stated that since 6 years had passed, the original recording was not available.
When CCTV footage was examined to determine whether the suspects mentioned in the complaint had been involved in any previous case, it was found that they had not. Therefore, since there was no basis to proceed with this case, a report was submitted to the court on 18.02.2026 stating that the case was being dropped.
As a result, the angry judge stated that the case could not be dropped. It was only when the police investigated again that details began emerging one after another about Veeramani, the young girls affected by him, the gang that extorted money by threatening Veeramani, and the businessmen who preyed on the girls. It is said that the special police team will soon submit a report containing all the details related to this case to Chief Minister Vijay.
It is against this backdrop that searches are being conducted at the Gem Granites office in Royapettah, Chennai, and at Veeramani’s house on R.K. Salai.
Meanwhile, it is also noteworthy that Shanti, an assistant to Veeramani of ‘Gem’ Granite, has released a video and lodged a sensational complaint with the police, saying that her life is in danger from Veeramani and his son.
