Chennai: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the Pickup Point Plaza, built at a cost of Rs. 23 crore in the airport premises for the convenience of passengers.
In front of Terminal 1 at Chennai Airport, a Pickup Point Plaza has been set up on the ground floor at a cost of Rs. 22.88 crore for the convenience of passengers.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated it yesterday via video conference from Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, he said: This pickup plaza has been designed with passengers' convenience as the central focus.
It will help regulate the movement of vehicles picking up passengers and reduce traffic congestion in the terminal area. To make it easier for passengers to travel between the terminals and the multi-level parking areas, 15 battery-powered vehicles will be operated continuously.
For the convenience of passengers, work is also underway to provide modern trolleys in the area beyond the security check. These modern trolleys will help passengers move around easily with their belongings and also save their time. He said this.
5,000 rental cars
Chennai Airport Director Raja Kishore said, “Until now, for a rental car from Terminal 1, one had to go to the multi-level car parking area located about 600 meters away, and then take the lift to the upper floors.
Now, since taxi facilities are available at the Pickup Point Plaza, just about 30 meters from Terminal 1, it will be greatly beneficial for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and passengers traveling with children.”
About 5,000 yellow-board rental cars can be handled in this area every day. This will reduce inconvenience for passengers and also regulate airport vehicle traffic. Our main objective is to improve passenger service,” he said.
