Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Chennai today to inaugurate various projects in Tamil Nadu. At the airport, Chief Minister Vijay welcomed Prime Minister Modi.
First, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new metro rail service between Poonamallee and Vadapalani. Later, at the event held after inaugurating the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Research Centre on the IIT Madras campus, Chief Minister Vijay and Prime Minister Modi spoke.

Chief Minister Vijay said, "Tamil Nadu is home to diverse cultures. It has preserved and protected them to this day. Based on the principle that 'all lives are equal at birth,' our government is promoting inclusive development for everyone.
It is effectively implementing welfare schemes with the well-being of people from all walks of life in mind, including education, healthcare, and agricultural development. Our state continues to contribute to India's progress.
Our approach is that when the Union government and the state government work together, the benefits should be directly reflected. Young people are our greatest strength. Our goal is to connect their technical knowledge and innovative thinking with global opportunities.
In the first phase of the Chennai Metro Rail, a 54-kilometer rail line is in use. Continuing this, in Track 4 of Phase 2, the 14.64-kilometer route from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani has been inaugurated today.
It is essential to expedite the implementation of Phase 3 of the Chennai Metro Rail project in order to improve transport connectivity across all parts of Chennai city and strengthen public transportation.
Accordingly, I request the Central Government to swiftly approve the Phase 3 project, covering a distance of about 65 kilometers from the airport to Kilambakkam, from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchathiram, and from Koyambedu to Pattabiram.

Similarly, keeping in mind the future development and economic progress of Tamil Nadu’s western and southern regions, I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister to reconsider the proposal to implement the metro rail project in the cities of Coimbatore and Madurai.
Furthermore, taking into account the interests of both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, I request that approval also be granted for the inter-state metro rail project from Hosur in Tamil Nadu to Bommasandra in Karnataka.
Furthermore, I would like to point out some important infrastructure projects that the Central Government should implement immediately. These include the expansion of the Chengalpattu - Trichy section on the GST Road, the Trichy - Panchapur - Jayankondam - Karur section on NH81, and the Karur - Coimbatore section into 6-lane roads, as well as the project to construct an elevated road from Madhavaram to Cholavaram on NH87.
Approving and implementing these projects in a timely manner will be a great support to the country’s economic growth. Along with these, I would like to place before the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s attention a few more important requests. Linking rivers is extremely essential to bring water balance among states.

The Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project is a golden opportunity to enhance water resources in the southern Indian states. Therefore, the Central Government should give this project top priority and implement it as a national project.
Recently, a resolution was passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly requesting approval to use Tamil as the language of proceedings in the Hon’ble Madras High Court. This proposal has been forwarded to obtain the Hon’ble President’s approval.
Therefore, I request that approval be granted at the earliest so as to enable the use of the Tamil language in the High Court.
Similarly, the central government’s share of Rs. 5,110 crore to be provided to Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan scheme is pending. I request that the central government immediately release this amount without any conditions,” he said.
