“All that remains is that Tamil Nadu is being turned into a force that is sinking into intoxication,” said TTV Dhinakaran in condemnation.
AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran has posted on his X page condemning the law-and-order issues continuing in Tamil Nadu.
In that post, he said, “A son near Dharmapuri beat his own mother to death while under the influence of ganja — the ‘pure force’ that claimed it would create an intoxication-free Tamil Nadu is only turning Tamil Nadu into a force that is ‘sinking into intoxication’!
The news reported in the media that a young man in Dharmapuri has been arrested for beating his own mother to death while intoxicated on ganja after she refused to give him money for expenses is deeply distressing.
Drugs, including cannabis, are not only ruining the future of young people, but are also completely disrupting social peace and law and order. It has become common for youths addicted to drugs to engage in criminal acts such as murder, robbery, mugging, theft, and assault for money, as well as to create a public nuisance and behave in a threatening manner in public places.
The fact that drug intoxication has risen to the point of taking the life of one’s own mother clearly shows the extent to which the government has failed in eradicating drugs and maintaining law and order in Tamil Nadu.
To curb the circulation of narcotics, including cannabis, which has taken deep root from Tamil Nadu’s capital to its remotest villages, what answer does the so-called pure force, which proudly claimed that one of its first three signatures was to establish district-wise anti-narcotics squads, have today for this massacre caused by cannabis intoxication?
In a situation where incidents of women and children going missing, as well as sexual crimes against them, are increasing day by day, in which corner is the Singapen Special Task Force, said to have been formed to prevent such crimes, lying dormant?
Is this the real performance of the so-called “pure force,” which occasionally boasts that it has set up anti-drug squads in every district, while keeping wholesale dealers of narcotics such as cannabis and those operating behind smuggling networks within its own party—speaking on stages about eradicating drugs on the one hand, and on the other failing to control the spread of drugs that put young people’s future in jeopardy?
What answer is the Chief Minister going to give to the allegation that even after more than 5 months in office, instead of identifying those involved in drug trafficking and the key figures operating behind them and taking appropriate action, the government is assigning party responsibilities to those accused of such offenses and glorifying them, and that this is precisely why the circulation of drugs and the crimes arising from it continue unabated?
If the ruling power, instead of using the police force—which should fully curb drug trafficking and protect law and order—as an instrument to monitor and intimidate those who democratically expose the government’s failures and its refusal to fulfill election promises, had changed its approach and allowed the police to operate freely in the anti-drug campaign without any political interference, it is unlikely that so many criminal incidents would have taken place in Tamil Nadu over the past five months!
“Realizing that drugs cannot be eradicated merely by spending crores of rupees and running a marathon for reel content, I urge Chief Minister Joseph Vijay to immediately take constructive steps to completely curb and eliminate the widespread circulation of narcotics, including cannabis, which are pushing the lives of the youth, the pillars of the nation’s future, into a deep abyss,” he posted.
"All that is being achieved is the transformation of Tamil Nadu into a place sinking into a quagmire of intoxication," TTV Dhinakaran has remarked, expressing his condemnation.
