West Bengal’s Nandigram constituency saw multiple twists in a single day yesterday (September 18).
This is the constituency of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
In the last West Bengal Assembly election, Suvendu Adhikari contested from two constituencies, Bhabanipur and Nandigram. He won both.
Bhabanipur constituency...
The Bhabanipur constituency is the home constituency of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Since 2011, Mamata Banerjee has governed West Bengal by winning from this constituency.
In 2021, Suvendu Adhikari challenged Mamata to contest in a constituency other than Bhabanipur and win.

Mamata Banerjee contested in Nandigram, the constituency of Suvendu Adhikari, taking up the challenge. But what she got there was defeat.
As a result, in the 2021 by-election in the Bhabanipur constituency, Mamata Banerjee stood and won, thereby retaining her Chief Minister post.
Mamata Banerjee has that much influence in the Bhabanipur constituency. Likewise, in the incident mentioned above, if even a Chief Minister suffered defeat, then Suvendu Adhikari’s influence in Nandigram cannot be overlooked either.
The Nandigram election is swinging between these two influences.
Suvendu Adhikari and the Bhabanipur constituency!
Yes... Suvendu Adhikari cannot resign from the Bhabanipur constituency MLA post. If he does so, Mamata Banerjee will contest the by-election in that constituency and sweep the victory.
After that, Mamata will further intensify the pressure on Suvendu Adhikari in both the government and the assembly. Because of this, he has kept the Bhabanipur constituency as a “safe” seat for himself and resigned from the Nandigram MLA post.
Nandigram is the constituency that gave Suvendu Adhikari victory in three consecutive elections in 2016, 2021, and 2026. Because of this, Suvendu feels that this constituency too must remain under his control.

Suvendu Adhikari's meeting
In the Nandigram constituency, Sanjita Pradhan Day was fielded by Mamata's Trinamool. She is an elementary school teacher.
He secretly met Suvendu Adhikari the day before yesterday (September 17). Following this, he withdrew his nomination yesterday.
Yesterday morning, because two factions had emerged in the Trinamool Congress, the Election Commission froze their symbol. Following this, Mamata’s faction was named ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress.’
Along with that, the ‘football player’ symbol was allotted.
Citing the party’s name change and symbol change, Sanchita Pradhan De resigned from her post.
This has put Mamata under pressure. As a result, Mamata announced her support for the Congress yesterday.
Congress candidate arrested
Within just a few hours of Mamata expressing support, Milan Pradhan, the candidate fielded by the Congress, was arrested. He was arrested in connection with a murder case in which charges were filed in 2007.
And if you look at who filed this complaint, there is a twist. This is a case filed by Mamata’s rival side, the Trinamool Congress.
Rahul Gandhi's opposition
Rahul Gandhi opposed this and, on his X page, said, “The arrest of Congress candidate Milan Pradhan for the Nandigram by-election is not a coincidence. This is political revenge, a murder of democracy!
The BJP has no faith in fair elections. That is why, at times, it tries to cling to power by stealing votes, at times by stealing governments, and at times by stealing entire parties.
They do not want to contest elections. They believe that the very existence of the electoral arena should come to an end.
The Congress will neither be afraid nor bow down!
“We will fight—and we will win!” he had posted.
Ritabrata Banerjee's response
Ritabrata Banerjee, leader of Mamata’s opposition faction in the Trinamool Congress, said, “There are three murder cases pending against Milan Pradhan, who is contesting the Nandigram by-election.
In this situation, we have filed a complaint against him on behalf of the Trinamool Congress. It is legally mandatory to execute the warrant against him during election time.
It seems the state Congress leadership did not tell Rahul Gandhi any of the original details about Milan,” he replied to Rahul Gandhi on X.
After all these parties, which party will win in the Nandigram constituency on October 6?
