“Disrupting the global crude oil supply through obstacles and roadblocks is a deliberate attack to keep its pricing under their control,” External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made an open accusation against the United States.
He made this accusation while participating in the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting held on Friday in the US city of Atlanta, under the chairmanship of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He made this remark amid the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iranian oil sales, disruptions in energy supplies from West Asia, and the decision to lift restrictions on Russian crude oil sales.
In a post on his X page about speaking at the conference, Jaishankar said: Economic sanctions and the West Asia war, including deliberate attacks on energy trade and infrastructure, are deliberate attempts to keep crude oil prices under control.
Moreover, convenient differences in the distribution of oil and gas are defined. That is, certain countries grant themselves selected exemptions among themselves.
As a result, countries around the world are facing not only an energy production crisis, but also unpredictability, disruptions, uncontrollable costs, and challenges in access.
The ripple effects and interdependence arising in a globalized market should not be underestimated. A reliable LPG supply is essential for India’s clean gas needs.
Therefore, the meeting emphasized that G20 countries must demonstrate understanding and leadership to keep energy markets accessible to all and predictable.
Furthermore, India’s national mission on critical minerals spans from exploration to recycling. India has also proposed a G20 critical minerals circularity initiative. Jaishankar noted that it was therefore stressed that, in addition to expanding access to finance, the G20 should also take measures to promote storage, small modular reactors, green hydrogen, and biofuels.
Bilateral meeting:
After this meeting, Jaishankar separately met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco Alvarez, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luiz Vieira, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, and held discussions on bilateral relations.
During the meeting with the Canadian Foreign Minister, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release that both ministers agreed that Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Canada in December would serve as another foundation for bilateral relations.
‘Quad’ meeting:
Amid the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, Marco Rubio convened the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Quadrilateral nations (Quad - Australia, India, Japan, and the United States) in Atlanta.
This is the third Quad foreign ministers’ meeting to be held this year. Earlier, it was held in Delhi in May and in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, in July.
With the Quad leaders’ summit set to take place in the Philippines next month, the foreign ministers’ meeting was held. The foreign ministers of all four countries in the grouping participated in it.
