Chennai: Minister Raj Mohan announced that traditional attire day will be observed once a week in government offices, and that a Tamil Sangam will be formed with the Chief Minister as its head.
The Tamil Nadu Day celebration, organized by the Department of Tamil Development and Information at the Government Museum in Chennai’s Egmore, was held yesterday.
Ministers N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Raj Mohan, Vanniarasu, Vijayalakshmi, and Iyal, as well as Isai and Natakam Mandram chairman Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, took part.
At the event, when linguistic states were formed, a government order was issued increasing the assistance provided to the border guards who fought to protect Tamil Nadu’s borders.
Then, the ‘Tamil Chemmal’ awards were presented to Tamil scholars who had worked for the growth and development of the Tamil language.
Later, Minister Rajmohan said: The Chief Minister comes wearing a silk veshti and shirt one day a week.
Similarly, I requested the Chief Minister to take steps so that ministers and officials, including those at the Secretariat and all government offices across Tamil Nadu, wear veshti and shirt one day a week.
Since wearing veshti and shirt preserves Tamil tradition and also supports the livelihood of weavers, the Chief Minister has ordered arrangements to be made for this.
Accordingly, on behalf of the Tamil Development Department, “Traditional Dress Day” will henceforth be observed once a week in all government offices.
Similarly, a Tamil association will be formed at the Secretariat. All the Tamil associations already functioning will be coordinated, and the Chief Minister himself will serve as the head of that association.
Steps will be taken to once again hold the World Tamil Conference, starting in Tamil Nadu and conducting it across the world. Various competitions will be held in schools under the name “Tamil Speech, Our Breath of Life.” He said this.
State Flag
Speaking at the event, Minister Aadhav Arjuna said that, to proclaim the pride of Tamil and the identity of Tamil Nadu, a separate flag for Tamil Nadu should be created on par with the national flag.
When it comes to Tamil Nadu and Tamil culture, no matter what kind of dominance comes from Delhi, even if life is lost, we will stand by our principles, he said.
