Tambaram: In the case of the ATM machine of ICICI Bank being broken into and Rs. 9 lakh looted in Somangalam, near Tambaram, shocking information has emerged during the interrogation of those arrested about the operations of the Mewat robbery gang.
On the early morning of the 25th, the gang entered the ATM center in Pudupet, broke open the machine using a gas cutter, and stole the cash. While a special police team was investigating this matter, Pawan Kumar (28), from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in connection with another ATM robbery case in Rajasthan.
During the investigation conducted on him, it was found that 5 people were involved in the New Perungalathur robbery. Following this, the Tambaram city police recently arrested Mohammed Mustafa (32) from Haryana. They are searching for the others.
The investigation revealed that Kumbhal, from the Mewat region on the Haryana–Rajasthan state border, steals container lorries in northern states, hides a car inside them, brings them to Tamil Nadu, and carries out robberies. It is said that after the robbery, they escape in the car and go into hiding in their hometown.
Moreover, in the Mewat region, separate groups are being trained in breaking ATM machines and using tools, and the police said that some groups are using minors under the age of 18.
