Chennai: In a press release issued by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT): No overall topic has been removed from the Class 9 mathematics syllabus. The lessons have been reorganized so that students understand them conceptually rather than merely memorizing them. In particular, topics such as lines and angles, and Euclidean geometry, have not been kept separately but have been extensively included within Chapters 5, 6, 9, 12, and 13.
Instead of traditional lectures and proofs, emphasis has been placed on practical learning. Likewise, in the current era, when artificial intelligence technology is growing at an astonishing pace, it is essential for students to understand the basic mathematics behind algorithms and data structures.
Therefore, in accordance with the National Education Policy recommendation, a new chapter on “Algorithms” has been added to the 9th-grade mathematics syllabus. What has now been released is only the “draft curriculum.” The final curriculum, revised based on feedback received from teachers and educators, will be released next October.
Furthermore, as per the National Education Policy, education should be skill-based. Therefore, schools and teachers should not judge the curriculum merely by the number of topics in the textbook. This is what it states.
It is noteworthy that NCERT has issued this clarification after reports spread that some important mathematics topics, including Euclidean geometry, had been removed from the recently released draft syllabus for Class 9.
