Tiruchi: “The failure of past rulers to properly maintain the infrastructure needed for power generation in our state is the reason for the current power shortage in our state,” MP Durai Vaiko has alleged.
Speaking to reporters at Tiruchi airport, he said, “As far as the local body elections are concerned, there was a case in court, and a verdict has now been delivered. The local body elections and by-elections for the remaining constituencies will be held soon.
As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, several departments, including the electricity department, require additional funds. Since the Tamil Nadu government already has a debt burden of around 13 lakh crore rupees, there are no immediate possibilities of reducing it right away. However, since the minister concerned has given an explanation on this matter, the details should be examined. Tender irregularities have been completely reduced under this administration. This will reduce Tamil Nadu’s debt burden in the future.
Although it is said that Rs. 4,000 crore was spent by the previous government on flood-control works in Chennai, the question arises whether it was properly planned and implemented. Even though rainwater drains were dug for nearly 24 kilometers, the work of connecting them to other drains has not been fully carried out, resulting in a situation where they are going to waste. This problem exists in many places like this.
It is not known what they (the DMK) did over the past five years. Moreover, government employees and ministers were on the ground carrying out relief work. In times like these, it is the local bodies that should be on the ground. The ruling party’s councillors, the mayor, and the deputy mayor did not go to the field properly and meet the public. When more than 15,000 municipal employees and ministers are on the ground, the reason the councillors are not there is politics.
The main reason for the current power shortage is that previous governments did not take proper action on the power infrastructure for the past 20 to 25 years. In particular, Rs. 13,000 crore was spent on the Uppur power project, and equipment worth Rs. 6,000 crore was ruined by salt-laden air due to lack of proper maintenance. It is the duty of the present government to correct these irregularities and meet the demand for electricity over the next 5 years.
Politically, countering attacks and expressing ideological differences are the foundation of democracy. At the same time, personal attacks, speaking in a vulgar manner, speaking with double meanings, and things like that are not acceptable. If the Naam Tamilar candidate has acted in a way that disrupts law and order, action must definitely be taken.
In a democratic country, anyone can start a political party and contest elections. There is nothing wrong with actor Dhanush starting a party; that is each person’s right. The final decision will always be made only by the people,” said MP Durai Vaiko.
