Chennai: It has been reported that memos are being sent region-wise following the protest by TASMAC employees, and that more than 300 TASMAC employees have been suspended.
TASMAC employees have been expressing opposition to the implementation of the scheme to collect empty liquor bottles across Tamil Nadu.
Employees say that implementing this new procedure will add to the workload of the existing tasks. They are also pressing demands that separate staff be appointed to take back empty liquor bottles and that separate arrangements be made to collect the bottles.
Meanwhile, to press their demands, Tasmac employees staged a sudden strike in various districts across Tamil Nadu on Nov. 1. As a result, many Tasmac shops were closed.
Meanwhile, TASMAC management sent memos region-wise the day before yesterday to supervisors and sales staff who refused to open the shops, seeking an explanation. In addition, 160 employees who took part in the protest by shutting the shops were suspended.
Following this, even yesterday TASMAC shops in several districts, including Chennai, remained closed and were not opened. For the second day, employees continued their protest by keeping the shops shut.
Due to the employees’ ongoing protest, as of yesterday evening, memos had been issued to 798 employees, and reports have emerged that 81 people have been suspended.
Furthermore, it is being reported that memos are being sent zone-wise to those who have so far kept shops closed and taken part in the protest, and that more than 300 people may have been suspended.
