As the 18th BRICS Summit is being held under India’s leadership, central Delhi has taken on a fresh look with decorative lights, floral decorations, renovated roads, and billboards centered on the BRICS summit.
Officials said decorative lights have been installed at various locations including Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Mandi House, Teen Murti, Lok Kalyan Metro Railway Station, and the circular road near the Prime Minister’s Office.
Posters: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has installed LED display boards featuring the BRICS summit logo. Posters centered on the BRICS summit have also been put up on streetlight poles along major routes.
Priority on major routes: Priority has been given to the main routes connecting the airport and the hotels where foreign leaders are staying with Bharat Mandapam, where the summit is being held, and beautification, lighting, and horticultural work have been intensified in areas under NDMC jurisdiction.
Decorative lighting: As part of the arrangements for the conference, 17 major roundabouts, at least 12 hotel complexes, and 10 major NDMC buildings have been illuminated with decorative lights. Decorative lighting has also been installed on trees, shrubs, and green spaces along major hotels and main roads.
In addition, it has been checked whether streetlights are functioning properly on all routes associated with the conference, and faulty lights identified in the process have been replaced. Around 350 electrical control boxes along the roadsides have also been refurbished with decoration centered on the BRICS conference.
Floral decoration: Along with this, extensive horticultural work is also being carried out. More than 15,000 ornamental potted plants are being placed in key areas of New Delhi. Floral decoration boards have been installed at 15 locations, and floral fountains at 9 locations. Work such as landscaping, planting saplings, and trimming and pruning trees and shrubs along major roads and VIP routes has also been intensified.
107 varieties of rose plants: Work has been intensified by the NDMC at the BRICS Friendship Rose Garden in Chanakyapuri as well. This park, which was established when India hosted the BRICS summit in 2016, has 107 varieties of rose plants. Landscaping, pruning of tree branches, maintenance of the lawns, and floral decoration work are being carried out in the park and along the surrounding diplomatic enclave pathways.
Sanitation work intensified: Meanwhile, the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) and the Public Works Department have jointly carried out inspections in key areas including Bharat Mandapam, Sarai Kale Khan, Lodhi Road, Nizamuddin, Saket, and Sheikh Sarai. Officials have been instructed to intensify sanitation work along routes associated with the conference and at other important locations, and to deploy adequate numbers of workers and machines.
