Retired police officer Velladurai, who had earned the name “encounter specialist” in the police force, has met Edappadi Palaniswami and joined the AIADMK.
In the 2026 Assembly election, he contested from the Nanguneri constituency on behalf of the A.I.P.U.T.M.M.K., when Sasikala was the general secretary. We asked him a few questions now that he has joined the AIADMK.

“Some people are saying that the AIADMK is in disarray after the 2026 election. In that situation, you have decided to join that party?”
Basically, I am an M.G.R. fan. His films, the songs from the movies he acted in—I really liked them, and I developed an attachment to him during my college days itself. That’s why I had already bought a party membership card back then.
Later, since I joined government service, I did not get involved in political activities. After M.G.R.’s death, Amma carried that movement forward in an organized way and in a manner that the people of Tamil Nadu liked. During Amma’s rule, I have received many awards from her hands. But at no point was I ever a party person.
As a police officer, I really liked the priority and importance they gave to law and order.
Then, even during the period when Edappadi Palaniswami was in power after they lost, law and order remained stable.
Then there were some issues and unrest within the party. That is something everyone knows. I went to the place where Sasikala amma was. But now I am not satisfied there, so I have come back to the movement created by M.G.R. and safeguarded by Amma. I believe that after Amma, Edappadi Palaniswami is protecting the party and taking it in the right direction. That is why I have joined.''

“Why is Chief Minister Vijay saying ‘and others’ without even mentioning the name of AIADMK?”
It’s right to say “and others.” Then why wear an M.G.R. cap and ask for votes? What qualification does today’s Chief Minister have to claim M.G.R.’s legacy? The revolutionary leader was a mountain; this man is a molehill. M.G.R. was in Congress. He held important positions in DMK, including treasurer. He learned politics and came up through it. That is why people entrusted him with power for as long as he was alive.
During his tenure too, people’s welfare was there in every matter. But in today’s TVK, neither the Chief Minister nor the ministers seem to know even the basics of politics. The ministers are people without even basic knowledge. One minister says that if you wear a full-sleeved shirt, you can escape dengue. Another minister doesn’t know the difference between dye effluent and soap foam. If you keep such ignorant people and then keep speaking ill of the AIADMK, it only makes us laugh.
This party is the one that has ruled Tamil Nadu for the most years after independence. This record cannot be surpassed right now not only by Vijay, but by any other party. I have just one request for Chief Minister Vijay. You came to power through your cinema image. At least after coming in, read the political history of the state you are serving as Chief Minister.''

``You were in the police force. After the TVK government was formed, how is law and order in Tamil Nadu?"
''17 prisoners have escaped from the Thekkampatti jail. In Tamil Nadu’s history, there has never been news of so many prisoners escaping at the same time. Every day, when we see news about children going missing and murders, it makes one wonder whether there is even such a thing as law and order.
They brought in the 'Lioness' scheme, but whenever crimes against women happen anywhere, these lionesses are the ones who run away screaming from the spot. The reason is that this scheme has no separate authority. They could have recruited separate personnel for this force. But instead, they gave the existing police a different uniform and turned them into lionesses.
If they’re taking risks, they should at least get an incentive. Even that isn’t there. It’s just the regular salary. Then how is the plan supposed to succeed?''

Regarding a few MLAs moving from AIADMK to TVK..
``If we start criticizing those who went like this without understanding the feelings of the people who voted for AIADMK out of affection, some low-level words may come out of me. So let’s drop this topic,'' he concluded.
