New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who has said that all elections are illegal, has insisted that the Lok Sabha and all state legislative assemblies should be dissolved. He has also called for fresh elections to be held using ballot papers.
Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Today, the entire country is functioning on the basis of illegal elections. Modi is an illegal Prime Minister. Amit Shah is an illegal Home Minister. And all the elected state Chief Ministers are also illegal. All of this should be dissolved, and elections should be held. And they should be held through ballot papers only.
Even ‘their own people’ are saying that electronic voting machines are being misused. There are many irregularities in the special intensive revision of the voter list. They are undermining democracy. The government is making many mistakes in this.”
Opposition parties across the country will continue to hold protests against the Special Intensive Revision exercise and against the misuse of the election process.
Leaders of 20 parties and their legal wing representatives attended the INDIA alliance meeting held on Sept. 30. They all agreed that the special intensive revision measures are heading in the wrong direction. As a result, they said, the poor, the illiterate, workers, and minorities are being affected.
If 500 votes are removed from a polling station, how can it be a free and fair election?
None of the past leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and P. V. Narasimha Rao, ever engaged in such activities.
Under Section 16 of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023, the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners are exempt from legal action for decisions taken during their tenure. Because of this, no investigation can be conducted against them anywhere until they die. By bringing in such a law, Modi and his camp are destroying democracy.
That is why the INDIA alliance has decided to launch protests across the country with the aim of creating awareness among the people. I will also take part in the protest to be held in Delhi on Oct. 6. We will continue to hold protests every three or four days. Protests are being held in every state.
Our job is to awaken the people. Even after that, if you continue saying ‘Modi, Modi,’ it means you want dictatorship,” he said.
