Cases had been registered against Dharapuram Naam Tamilar candidate Karthika for incidents including laying siege to a police station during election campaigning and campaigning without permission along the route taken by the Chief Minister.
Following this, the day before yesterday (Oct. 20), Dharapuram police went to her residence in Coimbatore and arrested Karthika, along with her husband and four others from the Naam Tamilar party.
Naam Tamilar party members had strongly condemned the arrest of Dharapuram by-election candidate Karthika. In addition, condemnations of Karthika’s arrest also came from various quarters, including the DMK, AIADMK, BJP, and PMK.

In particular, former Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin said, “Women from oppressed communities entering public life should be welcomed and encouraged, regardless of ideological differences. What is this government going to achieve by arresting and intimidating such people?
In the past, when Karthika criticized the DMK and its ideological leaders, we approached it with the intent of responding appropriately and clarifying matters on the basis of our principles; we never intended to imprison women leaders and silence them.
However, she had accused the TVK government of acting like an authoritarian regime without tolerance or democratic spirit, and of engaging in such arrests to divert attention from the arrest of a TVK functionary and his associates in the heinous drug smuggling case that has shaken the entire nation, as well as to hide its administrative failures.
Regarding this, Minister Vanni Arasu has posted on his X page. In it, “It was Naam Tamilar Katchi’s chief coordinator Seeman who said he would break the Dravidian fortress with an Aryan crowbar. It was revolutionary Ambedkar who exposed, with historical research, that the war taking place in India is an Aryan–Dravidian war. It was Father Periyar who spread that message in Tamil Nadu.
It was Seeman who insulted even Periyar, calling him “just a lump of dirt.” It was Perarignar Anna and Muthமிழறிஞர் Kalaignar who politicized Dravidian ideology and opposition to Sanatana. Yet Seeman has spoken in the most vile and uncivilized manner on stage, calling such a Kalaignar a “Telugu man” and “stolen DMK.”

Not only that, Seeman is a Brahminical slave who rejected the Tamil Thai Vazhthu song written by Manonmaniam Sundaranar, merely because Kalaignar issued an order.
The DMK may have forgotten the disgraceful politics of opportunist Seeman, who engages in both ideological attacks and personal attacks. As far as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal are concerned, they will accept only those who accept Father Periyar and revolutionary Ambedkar; they will not accept Brahminical slaves. Now the DMK has no shame; Nadhagavum has no shame,” he has posted sharply.
