New Delhi: Netizens have strongly condemned X posts and videos that demeaned Neha Bora, the president of the All India Students’ Association, who took part in the protest held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. On the X platform, posts insulting Neha can be seen in abundance across various accounts.
Under the video shared on X insulting Neha Bora, a netizen sharply asked, “We talk about women’s safety, but many people do not even know why women are not safe. If the person who posted this insulting Neha had been his sister, would he have been able to share this video?”
Earlier, last Sunday (Oct. 4), Neha Bora, along with her colleagues, set out from Andhra Bhavan Circle in Delhi toward Jantar Mantar. However, the police stopped her on Delhi’s Ashoka Road itself. At that time, she tried to climb over and jump the police barricades. But the police lifted her bodily and arrested her. She was later released from the Narela industrial area.
The next day (Monday), scenes of Neha Bora struggling with the police and trying to cross police barricades along with fellow students were released online as photos and were trolled. There were also vulgar comments beneath them. Some people had even edited and posted Neha’s video.
However, such videos did not fail to draw strong condemnation from netizens.
“They do not take the humiliation of women lightly. If your mother, sister, or daughter had been in Neha Bora’s place, would you still post or like this video? 7.1K likes is very disappointing. Before liking or sharing content like this, think about the impact of what you are supporting,” an X user posted under the video insulting Neha.
Netizens have expressed their anger, saying that they deliberately filmed Neha from such terrible angles and spread it online, fully aware that it would damage a woman’s dignity.
“Why are you trying to insult the entire protest by showing a photo/video of a woman who took part in it from such an angle? The issue that needs to be discussed is something else. It is not about turning a woman’s dignity into a visual object for TRP,” an X user has asked.
Even after all these objections, some X users are still not ready to remove those comments or videos.
Protest again:
Meanwhile, Neha has called on people from all sections of society to join the protest being organized by the Communist Party of India in Delhi next Saturday. Neha also said that the entire Delhi police force has been deployed to suppress the protests.
