Chennai: Marxist Communist Party state secretary P. Shanmugam has insisted that the sexual assault case involving Gem Veeramani should be investigated by forming a special investigation team under the supervision of the High Court.
A protest was held in Taramani, Chennai, yesterday under the leadership of Marxist Communist Party state secretary P. Shanmugam, demanding a detailed investigation into the POCSO case against Veeramani and the arrest of everyone who aided the crime. At that time, P. Shanmugam told reporters:
The sexual allegations against Gem Veeramani have caused a huge shock across Tamil Nadu. Why did the previous DMK government try to close the case by saying the video was not clear? DMK leader M.K. Stalin has not said anything about why no further investigation was conducted. He should take moral responsibility for not carrying out a proper investigation. It appears that crores of rupees changed hands to cover up the crimes in the case.
Arun, Kannan, and other IPS officers have been placed on the waiting list precisely because they helped protect the accused. Under the supervision of the High Court, the government should form a special investigation team and conduct the inquiry within the stipulated time frame to ensure that all the culprits are punished. He said this.
At the protest held in Thenaampettai, the state secretary of the Communist Party of India, M. Veerapandian, took part. Speaking to reporters then, he said, “No one involved in this crime should escape. No matter how high a position the culprits hold, they must be punished.”
