New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India’s metro rail network has expanded to 1,200 km, and that more than 10 million passengers travel on it every day.
In India, the metro rail network was 248 km across 5 cities. It has now expanded to 1,200 km across 26 cities, Prime Minister Modi said.
In a post on his X account, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “If metro expansion had continued at the same pace as before 2014, cities like Pune would have had to wait for many decades.
It is unacceptable. This development will reduce the time spent in traffic congestion. The time spent with family will increase.
Productivity will improve and better opportunities will become available. We are creating such a change for urban India,” he noted.
This information has come out two days after Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Pune metro projects worth Rs. 21,800 crore via video conference in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Rs. 8,300 crore, 23 km Pune Metro Pink Line (Route 3) was opened. This route, which connects Maan and the District Court, will make commuting easier for Hinjewadi IT employees.
In addition, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the second phase of works worth Rs. 13,500 crore. This includes routes 2A (Vanaz – Chandani Chowk), 2B (Ramwadi – Vitthalwadi), 4 (Karadi – Katraj (approximately 25.52 km)), and 4A (Nal Stop – Manik Bagh (approximately 6.12 km)). These projects will strengthen Pune’s public transport, improve connectivity between residential areas, commercial centers, and IT hubs, and reduce congestion.
