New Delhi: The Election Commission has said that the number of polling stations in the 2029 Lok Sabha election will increase by 46 percent.
Under the Right to Information Act, information related to the 2029 Lok Sabha election was sought. In its reply, the Election Commission said: During the 2024 Lok Sabha election, 10.52 lakh polling stations were set up across the country. During the upcoming 2029 Lok Sabha election, 15.38 lakh polling stations will be set up.
Accordingly, the number of polling stations in the 2029 election will increase by 46 percent compared with the previous election. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission had 14.88 lakh electronic voting machines and 11.30 lakh control unit devices. At present, there are 30.48 lakh electronic voting machines and 21.92 lakh control unit devices.
With every election, it is customary to remove the old electronic voting machines and purchase new ones. Accordingly, 3.57 lakh electronic voting machines and 1.25 lakh control unit devices are to be removed. In their place, new electronic voting machines and VVPAT devices will be purchased for the 2029 election work at a cost of Rs. 486 crore. It has been stated thus.
